Katie– Senior Psychologist.

My name is Katherine (Katie) Burgess, and I have been an AHPRA registered psychologist since 2008. My academic qualifications include a Master of Psychology, Bachelor of Psychology with Honours, and a Bachelor of Social Science, Majoring in Counselling and Mediation. My area of specialisation is child and adolescent mental health and the neurobiology of trauma.

Prior to establishing private practice in Wollongbar I worked as a psychologist in numerous settings including NSW Health, Headspace, the DET as a school psychologist and as Clinical Manager of the Child and Adolescent Trauma Counselling service, Lismore.

I am experienced at working with individuals experiencing a broad range of issues, including; stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, chronic pain, adjustment and behavioural issues, anger issues, bullying, low self esteem, drug and alcohol dependency, and grief and bereavement.

My approach to therapy is eclectic and individualised according to the unique circumstances of each client I work with.

I draw from a variety of evidence based approaches including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), interpersonal therapy (IPT), narrative therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness practice and relaxation, family-systems therapy, emotion focused psychotherapy (EFT), and art and music therapy.

At Alstonville~Wollongbar Psychology we offer a warm, friendly, and collaborative approach to therapy, providing a safe and relaxed environment for our clients to reach their therapeutic goals through face-to-face appointments, tele-health online sessions, or a combination of both.
